This section covers how to export BIMx models from your archiCAD file. Note that the quality of your BIMx depends on the quality of your modeling in ArchiCAD. The more you detail and model your design, the better you can use your BIMx model as a visual tool for your clients.
BIMx models can be highly useful during and after your Design Development presentation. At this point in the design process, you should have your design intent modeled in ArchiCAD with textures applied.
We will send out an ArchiCAD Tip of the Week on how to create custom surfaces at a later date.
Step 1:
Open your model in the 3D window and set up your start point for your BIMx model. The start point would be the front entrance from the elevator lobby if you are doing a full floor, or if you want to start out at a specific important design feature. While you are in your 3D window, navigate to that eye-level view.
Turn on all the layers you need to show your design while walking through your model. (i.e. ceilings, light fixtures, flooring patterns.)
Make sure you are in your "3D views" renovation status, and all the display settings on the bottom of your window is set to "3D views."
INV Template Work Space
(1) Renovation Filter Options - Switch to 3D Views
(2) Display Settings - Switch to 3D Views
(3) Pen Color Settings - Switch to "Inventure Standard Pens - Demo and Partition layouts"
Step 2:
Go to File > Publish BIMx Hyper-model...
Step 3:
After you click on "Publish BIMs Hyper-model", you will get this prompt box:
Note: Where it says " Set to publish", you may have it default to say "Save a BIMx Model". Click on the drop down and set to to "Create new publisher set".
Fill out the prompt box as follows:
Publishing method: Upload to BIMx Model Transfer Site
Hyper-model name: "Insert Project Name"
3D Content: As in the 3D window
Model Background: Skybox or if you prefer there is a white background option in the dropdown menu
Layouts: I like to include the DD sheets or corresponding CD with the BIMx model
Then Hit Next >>
Step 4:
Once you hit "Next >>", the next prompt box will appear:
Fill out the prompt box as follows:
User profile: Sign in with your graphisoft account. This is for the actual graphisoft website not the BIM server log in.
Upload to: It should automatically link you to the Inventure Design site, if not, click on the drop down and select Inventure Design.
To This folder: Select Home
Select "Public"
Then Hit "Publish"
Step 5:
Your BIMx Uploader will begin uploading all your files. Hit "Skip All" if your drawing manager shows up. In the mean time, you can download the "BIMx" app on your phone or IPad.
Step 6:
You will receive an email with the link to your BIMx model. Click on the link from your device you plan on using the model on. In that brown window, click on "Download". It will then open up your BIMx app on your device and begin downloading the model. See screenshot below for an example of the email.
Note: For clients, you can forward them the link and ask them to download the app, or if they open the link in their browser, they can view it from there without an app.
?? Congrats! You now have a BIMx model! ??
